Some FACTS and a little HISTORY of the 1932 Ford and the B 400 Convertible

In 1932, Henry Ford introduced America's first affordable V8 engine ever produced. Bringing out a pioneering eight-cylinder low-priced car was a bold move in the midst of the most severe economic depression the nation had ever endured.  From the very beginning the 1932 Ford quickly grew tremendously popular and received praise for motorists. Generations of car enthusiasts have admired the handsome, clean lines of the 1932 Ford, which is popularly known as the 'Duece'.

The most expensive Ford you could buy in 1932 was the two-door B400 Convertible Sedan. Combining the luxury and weather protection of a sedan with the style and sportiness of a convertible. A limited production model designed for a small but discerning market that was loyal to Ford but wanted a distinctive and exclusive image, the B400 two-door Convertible Sedan was never produced in large numbers. Construction, by Murray, used traditional wood-framed coachbuilding techniques and achieved a surprisingly lightweight vehicle. At just 2480 pounds the B400 Convertible Sedan was thirteen pounds lighter than the Deluxe Coupe. Its combination of light weight, luxurious appointments, unique style, rigid body structure and practicality at one point made it a hot rodder’s favorite. Street rod conversions combined with its low production (only 842 V-8s and 41 Model Bs built in 1932, the lowest total of any 1932 body style) to make the survival rate of 1932 Ford V-8 B400 Convertible Sedans extremely low.

A 1932 B-400 convertible sedan was used as the backdrop to many of the popular photos taken by Bonnie and Clyde, it was one of the three vehicles in use by the Barrow gang during the Joplin hideout raid. The Bonnie and Clyde B-400  was registered to R.F. Rosborough of Marshall, Texas. Stolen in late 1932 and believed to have been abandoned shortly after the Ruston Caper. After Mr. Rosborough got his prize vehicle back, it had an extra 3,000 hard driven miles added to it's odometer and was minus it's tags.
