This Gorgeous 1968 HIGHLAND GREEN Mustang GT 390 V/8 Fastback "BULLITT" that has just been completed was a nice California car before it was taken apart to become one of the nicest "Bullitts" that we've built!! It was actually build on 2/20/1968 at San Jose California Ford Plant!! In the Vin# 8R02Sxxxxxx the "R" confirms it was built in San Jose, Ca. which is the most desirable Ford plant to have had a early Mustang built. The "S" in the vin# confirms it came from the factory as a real big block 390 V/8 car like the "Bullitt" in the movie. The # 71 on the original Ford door tag confirms the car was sold in the Los Angeles ordering district. Actually it was sold only 3 days after it was built, on 2/23/68 at Freeway Ford 666 S. Atlantic, Los Angeles Ca. 90022 to a customer who took very good care maintaining the car for years along with the other owners over the last 43 years. Selling in only 3 days in Los Angles after it was built in San Jose showing how fast these cars sold in 1968!! And they are more desirable in 2011!! You can tell it was a California car since it had never been undercoated underneath and is solid as it was in 1968. The # 5 on the original Ford door tag confirms it is a real factory toploader 4 speed car! You have to a real "S" Code 390 V/8 and 4 Speed car if you want a top of the line BULLITT in 2011!! The "G" the original Ford door tag confirms that it built with the 3.25 9" Traction-Lok Rear Axle. This "BULLITT" was built to look as close to the movie car as possible! In building the "BULLITT", the front windshield and rear window were taken out, then all the body parts such as the cars doors, fenders, hood trunk lid, valances and etc. were removed from the body. After everything was prepared and primed, the main body shell and all body parts were sealed and painted with Gobal PPG Highland Green and then the car was reassembled. It was water sanded and buffed to a beautiful finish that is probably nicer than when it was new!! Strong S Code 390 V/8! Beautifully detailed engine. Beautiful detailed trunk compartment! The Toploader 4 Speed still has the Factory one year only 4 speed shifter. It was sent off and was professionally restored and shifts out great!! $384.00 was just spent on having the Factory Tachometer professionally calibrated., P/ Disc Brakes. At the very beginning of this BULLITT project, everything was removed from the interior of the car and refinished. The interior photos speaks volumes! Beautiful New Black Bucket Seat interior. The interior, new Auto Custom carpet and new headliner installation were done by my guy who has done all my mustangs and BULLITTS for years. His 40+ year of experience is seen in his work! Sports Deck Rear Seat with beautiful new chrome trim around the 3 carpeted sections of the rear fold downs. The interior photos show a beautiful view of the rear section with the rear seat up and down show the carpet, chrome and very nice original rear trap door with no dent in it like most. Original FoMoCo AM radio. New Black Leather "BULLITT" Steering Wheel, New BLACKED "BULLITT" GRILLE. New Chrome and trim. The original stainless trim around the front and rear window was professionally restored and polished like new. It has the COOL "Blacked Out" Bullitt Touch's in the rear like the movie car! The "BULLITT" Style American Racing Torq-Thrust D Wheels were painted like the movie car. New Firestone Indy 500 Radials put the FINAL TOUCH to this GORGEOUS "BULLITT"!! It sounds great with the new custom built exhaust system, A 1968 "BULLITT" like this doesn't usually last very long on this web site! . You would have a very hard time finding a built to detail "BULLITT" like this one!! This "BULLITT" RUNS OUT STRONG!!! Again, it is definitely a "COOL" BULLITT!! It would be a GREAT "BULLITT" to use if there was a remake of the "BULLITT" movie! It LOOKS FAST EVEN when it is PARKED!! NICE EXAMPLE!! A RARE FIND!!
The exterior photos were taken on a late sunny afternoon with lots of clouds giving an overcast at times. We have alot of exterior photos posted in the bright late sun which shows the beauty of the Highland Green and photos with cloud overcast which gives the Highland green a darker look.
